Sh*t That's Giving Me Life | Volume 2
A weekend in the Catskills, a Broadway Opening and Sh*t That's Giving Me Life and keeping me sane during this chaotic time...
LIFE UPDATE…
Hey, hello, hi. I am writing to you from the comfort (chaos?) of my dressing room at the Nederlander Theatre in NYC. If you noticed you heard a little less from me over the past month, you would be correct! Turns out maintaining a passion project while opening a Broadway show is…really hard. But as the madness has begun to slow down, I thought I would pop in and share some of the things that are helping me keep my sanity this month.
JUST BACK FROM…
While most of my time has been spent in Times Square working on the Broadway revival of The Who’s Tommy, Marco and I did find a spare weekend to head to the Catskills and enjoy some much needed R&R. While winter is not my ideal season to spend upstate (unless you ski….I don’t ski) we enjoyed our time nonetheless. The Debruce has been on my list of hotels to visit for a while. This is the sort of old school resort that has become synonymous with the Catskills. You can spend the days fly fishing, hiking, playing games, or sitting by the fire pit drinking wine.
However, what The Debruce is known for (and what I was most excited about) is the food. The 9 course pre fix menu was good (a little pretentious IMO), but the best meal for me was breakfast. We had the avocado toast with smoked trout and herbs, the most perfect omelette, and a side of duck fat hash browns. It was delicious. I’d like to go back during the summer months and enjoy lounging by the pool and hiking. Thinking of doing a guide to this part of the catskills soon.
SH*T THAT’S GIVING ME LIFE
READING | LOVING Kelly Link’s new book The Book of Love about four formerly deceased friends who are forced to compete in a series of high-stakes magical challenges. The winners get to stay alive—and the losers will be sent back to the realm of the dead. It’s hitting the same magical realism spot that Night Circus did for me — a forever favorite.

WATCHING | I know I am late to the game, but Amazon Prime’s new Mr. and Mrs. Smith is everything I didn’t know I needed in a spy series. It doesn’t try to compete with the Brad/Angelina movie. It is 100% it’s own thing.
WEARING | My skin completely changed when I made the switch to all natural skincare/make up. This category can be a bit more challenging when it comes to makeup that’s suitable for the stage. On a recent trip to Detox Market, one of the sales associate pointed me towards MOB Beauty. They are clean, sustainable and stay on my face in spite of all the dancing, quick changes and masks (you read right).
DRINKING | Y’all….I could not be more obsessed with my Aarke carbonator. I was intrigued by the concept of a soda stream for years, but desperately wanted something more beautiful if it was to stay on my kitchen counter 24/7. Enter Aarke. It’s sleek, it’s easy to use and (most importantly) its incredibly bubbly.
JUICING | In an attempt to eat a vegetable or two during this chaotic time, I’ve been making a big batch of celery juice 2x a week. I use the Breville Cold Press Juicer and put celery, cucumber, lemon, ginger and an apple in there. Delish.
PAINTING | Last summer, an overzealous Alex decided she would paint the exterior of her 100 year old home herself. Nearly a year later…I’ve been humbled and booked the painting crew to turn our house from purple to green. I was inspired by the exterior of this Queen Anne. ALSO, I’ve always wanted a pink house. While I don’t think I’ll be able to talk Marco into that just yet, I will be getting pink doors. I especially love this Crimson Red color by Farrow and Ball. Very excited for the transformation!
BATHING | For years I’ve been looking for a more luxe (and eco friendly) upgrade to my shaving routine. After reading an article by
over on the WSJ, I decided to take the plunge and order the Leaf Razor. Very Excited about this purchase!BOOKING | Marco and I are heading to the Dolomites this September and just booked several nights at Como Alpina Dolomites, which I could not be more excited about! We are still looking to finalize our hotel in Cortina d’Ampezzo for the first part of our stay, so if you have any recommendations I would LOVE to hear them!

Intrigued by the juice press! How hard/easy to clean? That's my biggest concern with juicing...
